Discurso del General Dwight D. Eisenhower a las tropas aliadas momentos antes de iniciar la invasión de Francia en 1944.

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have

striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The

hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.

In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on

other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war

machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of

Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well

equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of

1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats,

in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their

strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home

Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men.

The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to

Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in

battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!

Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great

and noble undertaking.

¡Soldados, marineros y aviadores de la Fuerza Expedicionaria Aliada!

Estáis a punto de embarcaros en la Gran Cruzada, hacia la que hemos empleado todas nuestras energías durante estos muchos meses. Los ojos del mundo os contemplan. Las esperanzas y las plegarias de las gentes amantes de la libertad en cualquier lugar marchan con vosotros. En compañía de nuestros valientes aliados y nuestros hermanos en armas en otros frentes, vais a conseguir la destrucción de la maquina de guerra alemana, la eliminación de la tiranía nazi sobre los pueblos oprimidos de Europa, y la seguridad para nosotros mismos en un mundo libre.

Vuestra tarea no sera fácil  Vuestro enemigo esta bien entrenado, bien equipado y curtido en el combate. Luchara de forma despiadada.

Pero esto es 1944. Mucho ha ocurrido desde los triunfos nazis de 1940-1941. Las Naciones Unidas han infligido a los alemanes una gran derrota en campo abierto, en el hombre contra hombre. Nuestra ofensiva aérea ha reducido seriamente su fuerza aérea y su capacidad de combate sobre el terreno. Nuestros frentes en casa nos han dado una superioridad abrumadora en armas y municiones de guerra y han puesto a nuestra disposición grandes reservas de hombres entrenados.

La marea ha cambiado.

Los hombres libres del mundo marchan juntos hacia la victoria.Tengo plena confianza en vuestro valor, devoción por el deber y habilidad en combate.

No aceptaremos otra cosa que no sea la victoria total.
